If it can work from within MPLAB as well, that would be ideal, but if it has to be compiled and run from an external program that will do. I am not certain if this is called an emulator or a simulator, but I need it to mimic the actual PIC 16F84 chip as if it were burned with my code and inserted into the DIP socket on my target circuit, but yet allow me to run/debug the code without wasting OTP chips. ![]() I am looking for a development tool that will allow me to connect a cable directly between my computers USB port, and the Dip Socket on my Pic Circuit board, and emulate/simulate my running code on the target hardware in real or near real time. as a result I end up wasting a lot of chips. To allow me to experiment and make small projects, I have designed and produced a small double layer circuit board with the on board basics (Dip Socket (for the 16F84 chip), voltage regulator, XTAL clock, conditioning caps, a ribbon cable connector to interface external peripherals to the pic various ports, etc.)Īll too often, I write code that appears to be correct, but only after burning the OTP chip and installing it on the target board do I learn that I have a minor bug. I have been looking to purchase development tools for Pic Micros (specifically 16F84), but am struggling due to my limited understanding of the nomenclature that describes the various features.
